Heredity may be termed as a natural phenomenon of passing of physical and emotional traits of parents or ancestors to the offsprings. Actually, this is the process in which an offspring cell attains the characteristics of a parent cell or organism. The study of heredity in biology is termed as genetics which enables the variations of a human being to accumulate and cause certain species to evolve.
Evolution may be known as the change in the generations in the inherited characteristics of biological populations. This process provokes rise of diversity at every level of biological organization which may include individual species, organisms and molecules like DNA and proteins.
Heritable characteristics of a human being are known to be passed from one generation to another through the DNA which encodes the genetic information about a particular human being. The part of the DNA which specifies a single functional unit is called genes. The long strands of the DNA form chromosomes and a specific location of a DNA within a chromosome is called locus. The sequence of a DNA can be changed through mutations and if a mutation occurs within a gene, the new allele could affect the traits which is being controlled by the genes. However, it may not be wrong to say that heredity and evolution are two faces of a coin. If heredity is not, the evolution of human beings is not possible and vice-versa.
