  • Human Lungs

Blog Pic  The Human Lungs are one of the major organs of a human body as they are the ones through which a human being does the process of respiration. Factually, a human body consists of a pair of lungs. These are divided into two zones conducting zone and respiratory zone. The conducting zone of these contains trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and terminal bronchioles. The respiratory zone, on the other hand, contains respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts and alveoli.

The conducting zone has no exchange of gas with blood and is reinforced to hold open the airways. It also cleanses the air by removing particles via cilia which is believed to be located on the walls of every passageway. The lungs are circumscribed by the rib cage.

While, the respiratory zone, is considered as a place for gas exchange with blood.

Both the lungs in a human body can, together, contain 2400 kilometers of airways and between 300 and 500 million alveoli, covering a total area of approximately 70 meter squares in adults.

A lung is used to refer alveolar tissue with respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts and bronchioles. However, it can also include3 any form of lung tissue like bronchioles, blood vessels and bronchi.
