: What is Global Warming
: Definition Global warming is the process of warming of the earth through carbon dioxide (CO2) which is being spread into the atmosphere from tailpipes and smokestacks. The gases thus spread trap heat like the glass in a greenhouse. This is where the term “greenhouse effect” come from.
: What’s Happening Scientists say that the barrier insulating the ice caps or ice bergs in various continents is melting. As the ice melts, big chunks of glaciers will break off and become like ice cubes in a big glass of water. The icebergs create mass in the ocean. The icebergs displace the water resulting in the rise of the ocean level. It is also believed that some of the shoreline in many places like Florida will go under water.
: What is Expected to be Happen The rise in temperatures globally are expected to raise sea level and change other local climate conditions. Changing regional climates may include altering forests, crop yields, and water supplies. It could also affect human health, animals, and many types of ecosystems. Deserts may expand into existing rangelands. Also, the features of national parks may be permanently altered.
: Effects The global warming rate in the last 25 years has risen to 3.6 degrees which tends to confirm the predictions of temperature increases made by international panels of climate scientists (IPCC). The earth has had droughts and floods, but nothing has been like the past 150 years.
: Effects Increased Temperature Habitat Damage Species Affected Changes in Water Supply Rising Sea Level
: Difference GLOBAL WARMING is the increase of the Earth’s average surface temperature due to a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. CLIMATE CHANGE is a broader term that refers to long-term changes in climate, including average temperature and precipitation.
: Conclusion Global warming is affecting plants, animals, humans and, above all, our planet, the earth. We need to learn how to conserve our fossil fuels to minimize the production of carbon dioxide. This may slow down the effects of global warming.
