PROJECT TIGER -1970’S DETAILS Project Tiger is the most famous wildlife conservation project of India, which was launched in 1972 to protect the diminishing population of Indian tigers. As recently as 1970, the hunting of tigers was legal in India and this majestic animal was hunted by the erst while royals and elites for pleasure and its beautiful skin. According to various estimates, during the 1950s and early 1960s, over 3,000 tigers lost their lives to trophy hunters. In the beginning of the 1970s, the tiger population in India was estimated to be around 1,800, shocking and jolting the concerned authorities to formulate an immediate plan to save Indian tigers and the result was the launch of Project Tiger in 1972.It gained lots of success as our own third prime minister Indira Gandhi had started this project. This started in Dhikala forest in Corbett National park.

Disappearing of tigers from forests Tiger has become one of the most endangered species of wildlife and its survival largely depends on conscious conservation and care. According to IANS, India is left with less than 1500 Tigers, as it is focusing on Tiger conservation programs and Tiger reserves to improve the situation. Reason for disappearing of tiger is;
The smuggling of animal skin, bones, teeth, fur, tails, heads. They use these items for accessories and sell them for greed of money.
Hunting for pride.

The population of Asian Tigers has declined from 100,000 a century ago to an estimated population of 3,500 or less.

Plans of saving tiger Along with a target for doubling tiger populations, countries agreed to protect core tiger habitats as well as buffer zones and corridors that connect key sanctuaries and national parks. Governments also committed to reduce poaching through beefed-up law enforcement and to minimize human-tiger conflicts through launching campaigns like street plays, signature campaigns ,rallies, advertisements, extend boundaries of sanctuaries. Such projects can help saving tigers .

Importance of IUCN red list It is also important to stress that the motion of security has broadened considerably in the past years. Initially the term
was used in its military sense, and referred to the security of
borders and national institutions from outside threat.
Research has shown that many of the
more intractable threats can be ? and
increasingly are ? internal to frontiers.
Further, the nation of security has
broadened from borders and national
institutions to embrace the security of
societies, communities and, in some
cases, even individual human security
